Highlights ■ The post-surgical infection rate after elective cardiac surgery was 10.6%. ■ Preoperative dental assessment was not significantly associated with reduced post-surgical infection. ■ Preoperative dental assessment was associated with a shorter hospital stay (p<0.05). ■ Overall, 89.8% of evaluated patients remained infection-free, indicating a favorable trend.
