Highlights ■ Remote training significantly improved teachers’ knowledge of pediatric eye diseases. ■ Educators were successfully trained to perform visual screening using the LEA Symbols chart. ■ Distance education increased teachers’ confidence in identifying visual disorders. ■ Remote training may facilitate the early detection of amblyopia in preschool settings. ABSTRACT Objective: We aimed to assess the effectiveness of a remote training program designed to improve the ability of education professionals to conduct visual screening in children aged 2-5 years. Objective To evaluate if body surface temperature close to the central venous catheter insertion area is different when patients develop catheter-related bloodstream infections. Methods Observational cross-sectional study. Using a non-contact infrared thermometer, 3 consecutive measurements of body surface temperature were collected from 39 patients with central venous catheter on the following sites: nearby the catheter insertion area or totally implantable catheter reservoir, the equivalent contralateral region (without catheter), and forehead of the same subject. Results A total of 323 observations […]

Krabbe disease (globoid cell leukodystrophy) is an inherited recessive autosomal leukodystrophy caused by deficiency of the enzyme galactocerebrosidase. The lack of this enzyme leads to the build-up of galactolipids that will promote the death of oligodendrocytes and the demyelination of the central and peripheral nervous systems. There are two clinical forms: early onset and late onset. This article reports a case of late onset Krabbe disease and discusses the importance of early diagnosis for its prognosis.
