Radiological characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma that achieved complete response after chemoembolization with drug-eluting beads for liver transplantation planning
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0307
Highlights Once complete hepatocellular carcinoma necrosis is achieved, the diameter of the hepatocellular carcinoma decreases significantly, regardless of its initial size. Hepatocellular carcinoma >3cm showed greater reduction and longer time to recurrence. Hepatocellular carcinoma ≤3cm exhibited a shorter time to relapse. Recurrence rates were similar, as long as complete response was achieved. ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the radiological characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) lesions that achieved a complete response following drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) preceding liver transplantation. Methods: This […]

Articular mobilization promotes improvement in functional and inflammatory parameters in a gouty arthritis model
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0465
Highlights The predominance of neutrophils was observed in an acute model of gout in mice, where neutrophils were mobilized and gradually replaced by monocytes/macrophages, with attenuation of the influence of leukocyte infiltration in the synovial fluid. Mobilization promotes analgesia and modulates the inflammatory process due to reduced edema and subtle attenuation of cell migration. At the inflammatory peak in a gouty arthritis model, manual therapy and passive joint mobilization decrease nociception and edema in functional and inflammatory parameters. ABSTRACT Objective: […]

Implication of FSHB rs10835638 variant in endometriosis in Brazilian women
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0483
Highlights First study to investigate the rs10835638 variant in Brazilian women with endometriosis. The homozygous TT genotype was very rare among Brazilian women. G۪۪enotype frequencies did not differ between endometriosis and Control Groups. The T allele was more common in minimal/mild endometriosis subgroups than in the Control Group. ABSTRACT Objective: The follicle-stimulating hormone subunit beta gene rs10835638 variant (c.-211G>T) may have detrimental effects on fertility and protective effects against endometriosis. A casecontrol analysis was performed, aiming to investigate the possible […]

Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on private hospitals in Brazil
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0174
Highlights Sanitary restriction measures had a strong impact on usual performance indicators from a selected group of private hospitals in Brazil. Pregnancies and deliveries continued to constitute an important proportion of hospital admissions because they did not depend on external restrictions. Hospital costs increased due to increased utilization of more expensive Personal Protection Equipment (due to lack of availability or much higher demand). ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the operational and/or financial impacts of regulatory measures implemented by the National Agency […]

Contemporary reflection on the educational levels of high-performance soccer players in Brazil
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0269
Highlights Only 5.5% of Brazilian soccer players surveyed completed higher education. Of these 179 athletes, 67% completed high school. T۪۪he most educated were goalkeepers and defenders at 37% (66/179). Physical education for sports is different from educating the mind in terms of brain plasticity. ABSTRACT Objective: As the soccer culture in Brazil is more popular than schooling, this study reflected on the formal education levels of soccer (football) players through descriptive and quantitative analyses. Methods: We evaluated 179 national soccer […]

Epidemiological profile of COVID-19 in patients with prostate cancer undergoing androgen deprivation therapy at a Brazilian Cancer Center
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0273
Highlights We were unable to prove an association between the use of androgen deprivation therapy and a reduction in factors associated with worse clinical outcomes. Most of the data presented show a tendency to favor the outcomes of patients who do not undergo androgen deprivation therapy, which can be explained by the fact that, in general, their clinical conditions are better and their performance status scores are lower than those of patients who undergo androgen deprivation therapy. ABSTRACT Objective: To […]

Determining reference ranges for immunological cells of healthy indigenous individuals from a region in Brazil
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0291
Highlights The relative medians of CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T cells were significantly higher in women than in men in a healthy indigenous population. Demographic and ethnic diversity of the Brazilian population can be associated with quantitative modifications in the immunologic cells of healthy individuals. Objective: The establishment of reference values for a subset of leukocytes is common in clinical practice, and ethnic variations are strongly associated with disease development. In Brazil, indigenous people are vulnerable to infections, and few […]

Are patient volume and care level in teaching hospitals variables affecting clinical outcomes in adult intensive care units?
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0406
Highlights Worse outcomes were more prevalent in the teaching hospital. Understanding the importance of teaching hospitals to implement well-established care protocols is critical. INTRODUCTION Some studies have reported the association between receiving hospital characteristics and the number of patients assisted with clinical outcomes.(,) Some authors have also demonstrated this relationship in scenarios such as coronary care units and care units for patients with diabetes.(,) Reportedly, hospitals with high admission volumes have better outcomes for surgical procedures; however, studies on […]

Epidemiological evaluation of patient compliance regarding oral health and hygiene during the COVID-19 period
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0195
Highlights Dental and tongue hygiene are key to maintaining systemic health. The questionnaire was sent by e-mail to 1,136 male and female patients throughout Italy. Demonstrate and understand whether patients during the pandemic cleaned and spent time cleaning and maintaining their teeth and tongue hygiene. The questionnaire testifies to the fact that it is not the time but the patient’s compliance and motivation that makes the difference. INTRODUCTION Oral hygiene techniques must be performed not only to maintain oral […]

Acute ankle injuries: association between sprain severity and ancillary findings
DOI: 10.31744/einstein_journal/2023AO0162
Highlights Participants presenting acute ankle sprains (<15 days) were divided into low-grade versus high-grade sprain, according to the presence of a complete tear in at least one component of lateral ligament complex. High-grade ankle sprains group presented increased rates of medial malleolus bone bruise, deltoid ligament tears, extensor retinaculum lesions, and articular effusion. Thecalcaneonaviculardistancewasstatisticallyshorterin patients with high-grade sprains (median, 3.0mm) when compared to those with low-grade sprains (median, 4.0mm). INTRODUCTION Ankle fractures and sprains are extremely common injuries, among the […]
